Žabovřeská I Tram Tunnel in Brno

01/2021–05/2025

Client:
Ředitelství silnic a dálnic ČR and Statutární město Brno
Designer:
PK OSSENDORF s.r.o.
Contractor:
Eurovia CS, a.s., Hochtief CZ a.s. and Subterra a.s.

The next stage of the Greater City Ring Road Žabovřeská in Brno continues with the extension of the road along Svratka river in the length of about one kilometre. The four-lane road will be partially conducted in the gallery.

Subterra participates in this project by building a half kilometre long tram tunnel under the slopes of Wilson's Forest. The northern and southern portals are located in former quarries.

The excavated part of the double-track tunnel is 355 meters long. Due to the complicated geological conditions the rock was dismantled mechanically and in some sections the blasting work was carried out. The lining was mostly made of unreinforced concrete. The work also includes a fifty metres long escape tunnel leading to the gallery.
