On Wednesday, 29 January, the results of the competition the Railway Construction of the Year 2024 were announced in the Fanta building of the Main railway station in Prague. In the category Construction, one of the winning projects was the electrification of the 20-kilometre-long line Střelice – Zastávka at Brno, which had been led by division 3 since 2022. The award was received by commercial director Jiří Tesař and project manager Štěpán Budík.
On Tuesday, 28 January, the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic hosted for the 12th time the professional conference Trends in Czech and European Transport, with Subterra as one of its main partners. In the afternoon block – focused on transport in Prague and the Central Bohemian Region -commercial director Jiří Tesař presented the progress of the construction of the new metro D line Pankrác-Olbrachtova, led by division 5.
On Saturday, December 14, a closing ceremony of the electrification of the South Moravian railway track Střelice – Zastávka u Brna, which was led by division 3 for more than two years, took place. The event, attended by prime minister Petr Fiala and other distinguished guests, included a ride on a special train from Brno to Zastávka station, where the ceremony took place. Commercial director Jiří Tesař cut the ribbon on behalf of Subterra.
On Friday, December 13, in Prague a new section of the tramline was launched to the stop Pankrác. The tramline, which was built by division 1, is related to the ongoing construction of the metro D, and will be extended to Budějovická after the completion of the Pankrác transfer station. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by representatives of the city and the transit company, Subterra was represented by the general director Ondřej Fuchs.
On Saturday, October 19, the Assembly of Delegates of ČKAIT took place in Prague, during which the Award of the Chamber of Engineers 2023 was announced. The Skärholmen highway tunnel in Stockholm, which was constructed by the subsidiary SBT Sverige AB, received an honorable mention. The jury appreciated the challenging construction, including its management in digital environment. The award was received by the project manager Jan Faltýnek, the ceremony was also attended by the director of division 1 David Cyroň and project engineer Michal Sklenář.
On Friday, October 11, the construction of the penultimate section of the D11 motorway was officially launched in the border village of Královec. The 21-kilometer-long section from Trutnov to the Polish border is being built by a contractor company led by MI Roads, of which Subterra is also a member. In addition to nearly thirty bridges and three interchanges, the motorway will also include two twin-tube tunnels, approximately half a kilometer long.
On Thursday, September 5, division 2 signed a contract for the reconstruction of Archbishop Grammar School in Prague, Vinohrady. The five-storey building in Korunní Street, which has an auditorium and a gym in the basement, will be modified when it comes to its structure and layout, and will undergo an overall modernization. The courtyard will be reopened, a barrier-free entrance, an elevator and an external escape staircase will be built. Division 2 will carry out the construction while the school is in operation.
On Wednesday, September 4, division 2 signed a contract for the construction of a multifunctional edifice in Reinerova Street in Prague, Řepy. The building, which is on a sloping site and was designed by Daďa Architects, will have two underground floors and four above ground. The building will have subsidized flats for employees, parking, commercial facilities and offices including a roof terrace. The structure will be made of reinforced concrete, while its façade of perforated and lacquered sheet metal.
On Saturday, August 3, this year’s Metrostav Handy Cyklo Marathon, a five-day charity race organized by the association Follow your Dream, ended at Štvanice in Prague. The eight-member Subterra team completed the 2,222-kilometer-long route across Czechia a day earlier and fell behind last year’s victory by a single place. Another representative of the company, Subterra Cycling Team, took seventh place, repeating last year’s result.
