The 380-metre-long Valík tunnel is located on the D5 motorway near Pilsen. Thirteen years after its opening a new technological equipment was installed in order to move the tunnel to another safety category. For the first time in the country, the speed limit in the tunnel was increased to 100 km/h. In addition, structural modifications and new coatings in both tubes were done. We were involved mainly in the installation of LED lighting, including a special control system that adjusts the light intensity according to current conditions and allows eyes accommodation at the entrance to the tunnel. Other technologies include section speed measurement, emergency lighting and CCTV system.

The project was awarded by the Skypaper magazine in the Czech Transport Construction, Technology, Innovation of the Year 2021 competition.
