In the winter resort of Garmisch-Partenkirche in the German Alps, division 1 and BeMo Tunnelling are excavating the one-tube Kramer Tunnel, a part of the B23 highway. From the total lenght of the tunnel, 3.6 kilometers, by February about 2 kilometers had been excavated. The works proceed from both portals, from the south the rock is crushed by explosives, from the north mechanically.
On Wednesday, February 16, Subterra made an agreement on long-term partnership with the Třebešín Secondary Technical School in Prague. The collaboration is focused mainly on engineering and air-conditioning. Subterra will offer pupils and teachers field experience, trainings, temporary jobs, lectures, and other activities supporting professional practice and promoting technical education in general.
Divison 3 has started work on the modernization of the Žilina Railway Junction in Slovakia. The large project includes four stations, a 16-kilometer-long track and many other objects. Division 3 participates mainly by reconstructing the track superstructure and constructing noise barriers. The construction site was taken over in December, and the project should take about four years.
On Tuesday, February 9, a testing volume of explosive was blasted in Žabovřeská Street in Brno, to be used for the excavation of the tramway tunnel. The half-kilometer tube under the hill of Wilson Forest will be a part of the Great Brno Ring Road. A roughly one-kilometer-long section of the road will follow the Svratka River. Division 1 will start the excavation in April, and the whole construction should be completed in 2024.
Division 2 is carrying out a general reconstruction of the secondary school in Prague-Hrdlořezy, which will result in an intelligent, energetically self-sufficient building. The innovative project features renewable resources, advanced technologies, and environmentally-friendly materials, such special wood panels on the facade. The reconstruction should be completed in less than one year.
Below the German Kramer highway tunnel in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a one-of-a-kind ventilation shaft, 4.5 meters in diameter. In January, Division 1 and BeMo Tunneling finished the excavation, 84 meters under the terrain level. Works have been suspended in order to protect local birds; construction should resume in July with the casting of the secondary lining.
Division 1 will participate in an excavation for the revitalization of a water line crossing under the Elbe River in Obříství. On Wednesday, Ferburary 3, the christening of the microtunnelling machine took place. Representatives of contractors and guests gathered at the entry pit on the left bank. In reference to the legendary history of the nearby city of Mělník, the machine was named after Czech patron saint Ludmila.
Správa železnic has organized the first Railway Construction of the Year competition, awarded to the best projects in eleven categories. Among linear constructions, the upgrade of the Český Těšín – Dětmarovice railway line won, which was built between 2017 and 2020 with participation of division 3. On Friday, January 15, near a steel bridge over the Olše River, Subterra commercial director Jiří Tesař accepted the award.
Construction of Herrschaftsbuck Highway A44 in souhtern Germany has reached its final phase. In the middle of the last year, division 1 and BeMo Tunnelling finished concrete casting, laying of the road surface and painting of the lining. Now the technological equipment is being installed. The 480-meter-long twin-tube tunnel should be put into operation by the end of this year.
