The purpose of the renovation of one of Prague's most famous monuments was to restore the tower to its interwar appearance. The works were divided into two stages. First the roof and the gallery were refurbished, then the interior of the chapel and stone facade including the astronomical clock were renovated. An extensive restoration and construction research were carried out before the works began. The renovation was carried out by many art craftsmen. The repaired gallery was completed with lattices, the roof was covered with a new slate roofing and contemporary documents were stored in the boxes in the poppy heads. Then the astronomical clock was shut down and dismantled. Its elements and mechanics regained medieval character. In addition to the statues and other decorations four Baroque clock faces returned to the tower.
