Client:

Designer:

Contractor:
BeMo Tunnelling GmbH and Subterra a.s.

The part of B23 road is under construction and in future it will create the north-western road bypass of the alpine resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria near the border with Austria. This section includes the Kramer single-tube tunnel, with a length of 3,609 meters. The tunnel leads under the slopes of the Kramerspitz mountain in the Ammergauer Alps. Mainly blasting works are used to separate the rocks. The most complicated part of the works was the excavation of four hundred meter long section of the tunnel in a sloping landslide zone in the north. A part of the project is the completion of an exploration gallery parallel to the tunnel. This gallery will be used as an escape route and will be interconnected with the highway tunnel with thirteen tunnel cross passages. Furthermore, the excavation of wind shafts and tunnel equipment, including roads and sidewalks, will be carried out.
